Characters: Riku. Open to all Characters
When: Day Seven (He leaves out in the morning, the closer you decide to meet him to Obscura and such the later the day it becomes)
Where: On the road towards Obscure, as well as around (He's hunting down the Black Mask)
Warnings: Its' a matter of what you bring to the party, Riku's a decent guy after all.
Summary: Riku's looking for the Black Mask, anyone he meets, he meets, but preferably he would like to meet up with Vexen at the Black Mask. Not insisting just suggesting.
Log:

Riku looked around at the new locations finally having snuck away from Edward enough that he could go. The potion worked rather well, he didn't feel some of the aches from previous battles and he was content to just look about. Each part of the city almost seemed to have a theme, the places that inspired dark or negative feelins seemed lumped in a general direction. So with that in mind and the fact the place was called the 'Black Mask' Riku began his walk under an overcast sky.

It was well upon its way to midmorning when Vexen reappeared upon one of Faciatta's many streets, having disappeared within one of the Caféis Café's franchise locations to fetch breakfast before heading off to his job - a half wrapped croissant held in one hand and a cup of chilled coffee in the other. Casting a glance up towards the sky, the scientist considered heading back to the hotel apartment he dwelled in to fetch an umbrella as he took a rather unenthusiastic nibble of his still-warm roll. It didn't look as though it would rain, but given the state of the world, appearances couldn't even be taken at face value - it was just as likely that rain would fall out of a clear sky. That is, if only in terms that everything was up to the Superior's whims and wishes.

Leveling his gaze back upon the scenery around him, the freezing scholar shuffled away from small cafe and took another bite of the pastry, heading in the general direction of the La Mélancolie temple. And while he truly didn't have anywhere pressing that he needed to be - his usual shift within the apothecary not beginning until later in the afternoon - the Organization member shifted his puttering stride into something more brisk, having no desire to waste his hours frivolously meandering the streets.

Nevertheless, Vexen hadn't gotten more than a dozen or so yards away when he spotted the backside of one of the experiment's specimens, the boy's silver hair an instant give-away insofar as identity went. He didn't hail the child, however, considering how the two had never truly encountered one another - idle banter upon the youth's 'journal' wholly notwithstanding. He might not possess a heart, but even the highly reclusive scientist could tell that calling out a near complete stranger’s name was a far cry from normal acceptable behavior.

The man did make his pace a tad more casual, taking advantage the opportunity to study the boy in a relatively relaxed state - it was clear the child was searching for something given his body language, but the question was what. Slowing down so that he wouldn't overtake the darkness-tainted Keyblade master, Vexen pursed his lips thoughtfully as he swallowed a sip of his coffee.

He's probably aware of me by now..

Taking another slow swallow of his drink, the Nobody finally deigned to speak, "Pleasant morning."

"Pleasant morning," Riku replied before turning to see who spoke to him. This place was a bit unnerving to him, how could any place that seemed to have dark themes have such pleasant people? It didn't seem natural that people who saw happier sides to everything could work or live near places that had such depressing themes. It made him unnerved, sorta the way he felt in Hallow Bastion when he was around the Witch when he thought back on it. How everyone was smiling when he was around, when in truth they were using him, lying to him about where Kairi was. Until they felt he was willing to kill to protect her, that's when they started offering him prizes for his work.
He turned around completely, curious as to who this person was, and if they were anything like Edward or like the people here. Well like Edward and he'd have something more then just the basic personality. "Do you know this area well? I'm looking for someplace." He asked finally.

"That would depend upon what, or rather, where, you're looking for," the scientist replied in a bland tone. "But, yes, I am familiar with this section of the city.

Coming to a halt a respectable distance from the youth, Vexen gave the boy a critical sweep of his eyes, recalling from the previously hacked journal entries about injuries that had been sustained prior to the beginning of the experiment. From what little he could see they didn't appear quite as severe as he'd anticipated; something to be thankful for he supposed - Maleficent's former thrall was capable of fending for itself. At least he needn't be concerned of the physical health of his specimens so early on.

"Where are you trying to find?"

"The Black Mask, my... my room mate is looking for that place." Riku replied not missing that sweep and trying to hide any other injuries he had. Ridiculous as that was seeing most of it was now hidden under his clothes. But he 'hated' showing weakness to anyone. "Are there jobs around here? Something where I can fight at least?"

Had he the capacity, the scientist might have been amused by how the Keyblade master recoiled in an attempt to make himself look less injured, but as it were, he simply countered the action by lifting an eyebrow and molding his expression into something wholly nonplussed.

"Room mate," he echoed after a moment's consideration, "Would he be the one interested in chemistry or the one looking for clerical work?"

Vexen allowed his gaze to drift obviously from the boy's to linger upon his arms, "Shall I assume the former then? You don't look the type to entertain himself with various narcotics.

"One of the entrances into the Mask is six or so blocks from here, if it helps, it's just a short distance from the Zenith marketplace. However, I can escort you if you wish, I was on my way there regardless.

"There are jobs available throughout the city," he drawled slowly, his expression changing to one of mild distaste at the mention of combat. "However, fighting is not looked upon favorably. You might find employment as a bouncer for one of the nightclubs or the bordello if you are truly looking for combat, or perhaps with the local enforcement - though I believe you need some matter of schooling for that. La Colère might offer something of interest to you, but I cannot guarantee anything, I haven't any experience with that temple."

"Probably the chemistry part," Riku admitted with a nod before thinking more to himself. He was always more the physical type, but he didn't want to do any construction type work after all. "Do you know of any jobs that would be open in any of the areas around here? Or a place I can check for them? And yes, I would like to come with you, just so I can see it for myself. If I'm not taking you away from anything."

"Restaurants are always looking for kitchen aide. I'm certain that if you were to ask around the market someone would be in need of a person to work stock or some other variant of manual labor.

"As for other places to check - I would assume there is some sort of bulletin board around here. I haven't looked myself, but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist. Simply asking around the larger restaurants or hotels would most likely point you in the correct direction for employment.

"If you were, I would not have invited you to come with me. Nevertheless, I would prefer not to dawdle any longer than needed."

Riku nodded and fell in step with the man, while his mind went over what jobs he could possible find. He wasn't old enough to be a bouncer really, and he wasn't doing a busboy job to save his life... This just never came up while living on an island.

No longer interested in the roll he'd been nibbling at earlier, Vexen tossed it away the in nearest trash receptacal as the pair meandered down the street. He kept the iced coffee however, oddly enough finding himself rather enjoying the drink, whereas food held little to no interest.

"I never did inquire as to your name," he finally said after a period of silence. "Or that of your room mate's."

"Riku, my room mate's name is Edward, I'll bring him to the Black Mask later." Riku replied blinking away a slight bit of vertigo, two rolls didn't make much of a meal between three days in his state. But he would heal, and since he was going to have to get a job, if he wanted a roof over his head, well he'd just have to hide the amount of his injuries.

"Very well than Riku, I am Vexen."

Though he had noted the slight disturbance in the boy's behavior - a peculiar series of slow blinks and the slight blanching of his skin - from the corner of his eye, Vexen said nothing; as he had little inclination in ruffling the child's pride by querying about his health. Sulky teenagers being far, far removed from things he found tolerable, of course. And considering that the former thrall didn't appear as though he wouldn't survive without aide, the scientist felt there to be little point in offering it.

"If you require, I could pen a general map of the area for you and your companion so you needn't worry about loosing your way," he commented, arms folding across his breast as he inwardly huffed about the difficulties of maintaining a reasonably amiable persona. It simply wasn't worth the effort.

"No, that's fine, if you don't mind the company then I'll just follow you. Though I'm curious as to at least a rough overview of the nature, that is to say, the type of shops in the Black Mask." Riku replied casually, "but I am curious, in a place so... decidedly upbeat, why should such a place as the Black Mask exist. There doesn't seem to be the least bit of variation between people here."

"The majority of the Mask's shops are little more than vendors whose wares fall under the line of 'sorcerous' products. Amulets, stones of various properies, and herbs are the most common of their commodities. I believe it was little more than ill conceived humor that produced the purported dark scenery for the market - if only due to how it yields to most people's preconceptions than anything that is inexplicable is necessarily evil. A series of curiosity shops, whose trinkets are varying in worth, and a pharmacy is what you will find within it.

I don't believe I understand what you mean by 'upbeat' or a lack of variation - the civilians are friendly, true, but the vast majority that you will encounter on those of the service industry and well groomed manners, be they feigned or no, are what is expected of their behavior."

"Interesting..." Riku looked over at Vexen thoughtfully for a moment before shaking his head. "No, there's no life to anyone here. Each person has something that is unique to them, a style or type of pattern of behavior, this place... no... This is what a little girl thinks up as the 'perfect' town. It's one thing to follow through on what's expected, it's another when people seem to be following a type of script."

Vexen paused then, blinking almost owlishly at the silver haired child's comment about the town and its inhabitants before simply bursting out in a sharp bark of laughter. When the harsh chuckle died to little more than a soft snicker, scientist resumed walking, a smirk stretching lazily across his lips.

"This place is far from what I would consider perfect - I think what you consider to be a script, however, is more of a general apathy of the civilians. You and nearly a half a dozen others, it would seem, simply appeared out of thin air and no ones gives a damn. No fuss, stir, or anything - and this troubles you. Correct?"

There was a short break in his speech as he took another sip of his chilled drink. Swallowing, he pulled the cup away from his mouth and resumed, "To be honest, it disturbed me when I first came to live here. How the locals seemed to simply accept the unusual as though it were routine. But now that I am on the other side of the fence, I can see where the disposition comes from. People arrive here quite often, though the numbers and span of time between each arrival is sporadic at best - how they get here, I have yet to ascertain, but you are not the first. Nor will you be the last, I fear."

"Apathy..." Riku looked about again before sighing, "how does one go home?" he finally asked tolerating being laughed at since it wasn't based off his ignorance of the place. Raising one hand without thought he lightly massaged a bicep that spasmed slightly in pain.

"You don't," the scientist replied simply, tone bland as ever. "No one that I have encountered has been successful in leaving - excluding death of course, but I hardly think that is the escape you were hoping for. This city.. goes on. Forever it seems at times. If there is an exit, I have neither seen nor hold any hope of finding it.

Everyone looks for a way out in the beginning, but after a while, days, months, years, depending upon the person, you simply stop. You put down roots and continue on, simply surviving. Perhaps that was the fate of all the civilians, they appeared here and were as successful as the rest of us in finding a way out."

A rather depressing thought."

"Pie crust promises, easily made, easily broken." Riku quoted from a book he once read. "If I fail..." He wouldn't think on it any further then that. He couldn't. "So... seeing as my condition is utterly wreaked at the moment, what would be a good job for me to try for?"

"If you fail, you have proved nothing more than you are human and fallible. As for a job, I would suggest something that isn't strenuous so that you might regain whatever strength you have lost. I believe there is a book store within one of the markets, perhaps that would hold an interest? It isn't combat, but one should always be aware that a sharp mind is just as good as a sharpened weapon if applied properly. What better way to acquaint oneself with their new surrounding than by reading native literature."

He shrugged indifferently, "It is your choice ultimately where you seek employment.

"Most of those that come here do miss the lands that were left behind, myself included. Though, there are days that I wonder if my memories are deluding me and I am not, in fact, simply a native daydreaming of worlds elsewhere. It is most disconcerting."

"Left here," he gestured, turning towards an alley brancing off from the main road. "One of the entrances is through here."

"Would it be too prying to ask about your homeland? I must admit, I am curious."

"So dismissive of a place you miss," he dryly quipped. "My home was nothing to speak of, a house within a small town - the focal point of the land was an enormous castle, though it was more of a place for research than royal politicking. It has been some years since I was last there; however, the town itself was.."

Vexen trailed off with a shake of his head, extending more effort than normal at keeping of a facade of some emotional attachment.

"The apothecary is over there," he motioned toward the back of one of the buildings. "The front entrance is at the end of the alley on the right - the rest of the Black Mask is a warren of alleys connecting off the upcoming street."

[Go for it.]
